I've hit the point in our NICU journey where I've started asking myself: "Are we there yet??" This of course is in reference to those long road trips we took as kids where at the first sign of bordem we ask this same question to our parents. "Does it look like we're there?" Obviously not, but just like in the car, as each second passes by, you're that much closer to your final destination, and typically, that final destination is one you cannot wait to reach. It's the same with the NICU.
Both boys had chest xrays today to look at their lungs. They each had a bit of a clamp down on the right lobe, so they are each receiving albuterol treatments every 3 hrs. This has helped ease Aiden's breathing on CPAP, since he was breathing very deeply since he was extubated, and at times had an increased heart and respiratory rates. Jackson is going back to strictly CPAP for the time being. In addition to the slight collapse on his right lobe, he was tiring out on the cannula, and within two hrs this morning, had 5 apnea spells. I don't see this is a major setback, just a temporary rest for him to build strength and inflate the part of the right lobe that is clampping down.
Jackson is very close to maintaining his own body temperature. The temperature/heat support he is receiving from the isolette is minimal. Both boys are now large enough to hold in our arms instead of chest to chest during our kanagroo sessions. Pretty cool to be able to see their faces while we hold.
As of 10:30pm Wednesday, Aiden was 4lbs 3oz, and Jackson 4lbs 9oz!
No pictures today, just a quick update. More to come soon! Thanks for checking in.
